The broadcaster behind Nuts TV has revealed its plans to turn the new lads' mag channel into a cross-platform brand.

Turner Broadcasting Europe, which owns the Freeview channel, said there will be considerable developments in forthcoming months, including a YouTube channel and distribution of clips to mobile.

Turner's senior VP for digital media Casey Harwood said that the channel was ideal for exploitation across various platforms.

Nuts TV launched on digital TV last month and is expected to be extended to other platforms, such as cable, in the months to come. It's a brand extension of IPC's successful weekly lads' mag Nuts.

It's understood that digital plans for the new channels include ad-funded video on demand and mobile simulcasting. Plans are also being developed to put Nuts TV into the Nuts magazine online portal.

"This is ideal for non-linear services," said Harwood. "We're now in talks with all the major mobile operators. Now that we have a back catalogue, we can repackage it for distribution on mobile."

He added that Tuner was also at an advanced stage with plans to set up a YouTube channel that would allow it to promote its content. "We'll need to segment the content first, then use it as a way to drive people from the website to the channel and back again," he said.

Harwood said that Turner would use the channel to cross-promote its other content aimed at the 16-34-year-old male demographic.

He insisted there wouldn't be a conflict with the original Nuts magazine brand online and on mobile because its publisher IPC and Turner are both owned by Time Warner.
